Nowhere Fast Presents was founded in 2025 at 924 Gilman St. Editor-in-Chief Kayla Moreno spent three years as a music journalist, holding positions as Head Writer and Assistant Editor at indie outlets—but she felt like there was more to do. Thankfully, summer coursework in UC Berkeley’s Journalism Minor Program sparked an idea.
Political unrest felt impossible to ignore during this period, too. Moreno felt like there was little she could do... but she was still going to try. Entertainment journalism often felt like thankless work, until she realized there was a palpable intersection between it and actually getting sh*t done. Looking to take action, she reached out to her network and hosted a benefit show for families unfairly separated by ICE raids.
A giant lightbulb cartoonishly emerged over her head: What if this could happen four times a year, and how could she combine these benefit efforts with her love of documentation?
The answer was simple: quarterly live shows that coincide with a limited-edition print run of an independently owned magazine.
Sure, it’s a collector’s item, but each issue of Nowhere Fast is much more indicative of the vibrant communities that keep live music and subculture evergreen.

and I'm going nowhere fast."
